ANDREW RAFACZ is pleased to announce Holoblocks, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Palma Blank-Rosenblum.

Chicago, IL, October 17, 2008 – Andrew Rafacz opens its second exhibition of the fall with a series of new paintings by Palma Blank-Rosenblum. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery.

Layers of translucent paint electrify the ultra-finished surfaces of Blank-Rosenblum’s Holoblocks series. The structure of the paintings is formed from passive geometries and implies infinite configurations, enabling the viewer to construct and deconstruct form and color. The light source of the paintings is unnatural and radioactive. Their material make up can be characterized as plastic, artificial and commercial.

The object-like presence of the work references minimalist concepts, while the atmospheric space links to color-field painting. The experience is both an optical and tactile phenomenon.

PALMA BLANK-ROSENBLUM (American, b. 1979) lives and works in Brooklyn. She received her M.F.A. from Yale University in 2006, and her B.F.A. from RSD, in 2001. Recent group exhibitions include Gallery Janet, Brooklyn, and Artspace, New Haven, Connecticut. This is her first solo exhibition.
